Already back in 1992 we were invited by Maestro Joaquín Rodrigo to come to his home in Madrid and perform our two-guitar version of his famous 'Concierto de Aranjuez'. The concerto for guitar and orchestra—written in 1939—that made his name famous all over the world. We were well received by him, his wife and daughter, and when it was time to play we felt like two nervous students back in school again, playing for an exam. After all, this was the very legend himself, and we played as if our hole future was at stake. (Which it very well could have been—if the maestro had disapproved, we could not have continued to play or record the piece…)
Anyhow, Maestro Rodrigo was very kind to us, and a few weeks after our meeting we received a letter with the following words:

“After listening with pleasure to this brilliant duo,
I found the transcription of the ‘Concierto de Aranjuez’
for two guitars most dignified and acceptable."

After just one year as a guitar duo, we get this kind of judgement from the legendary Joaquín Rodrigo! It was a great encouragement from a great man and composer. We will never forget those words.
Maestro Rodrigo died in 1999, at the age of 98. We will never forget him either.
